Parker’s Paddlers Make Waves at Birmingham Dragon Boat Race

RGIS staff recently took to the water in Birmingham City Centre to raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Birmingham Women’s Hospital, rowing in memory of their dear friend and colleague, Emma Parker.
The Dragon Boat Race, held on the canal outside The Mailbox, brought together a host of corporate teams, all eager to compete while supporting two incredible causes. The atmosphere was electric, with plenty of laughter, healthy competition, and amazing encouragement from colleagues, friends, and family who came down to cheer the teams on.
A Day of Team Spirit and Determination
While the competition on the water was fierce, it remained friendly and good-spirited throughout. For Parker’s Paddlers, the event was a real test of teamwork. By the third race, after a strategic reshuffle in the boat, the team truly found their rhythm, powering down the canal and cutting their race time by almost a quarter. The dramatic speed gain showed how quickly lessons had been learnt and how determined the crew was to give their all.
Smashing Our Fundraising Target
The team is proud to have exceeded the fundraising target of £2,550, thanks to the generosity of supporters. Every donation, big or small, contributed to making a real difference for Birmingham Children’s and Women’s Hospitals.
Looking Ahead to 2026
Although Parker’s Paddlers didn’t quite claim a spot in the top three this year, the experience brought the team closer together, strengthened commitments, and set their sights firmly on the trophy for 2026.
“Most importantly, we raced in memory of our friend and colleague Emma Parker, and we know she would have been proud to see the team pulling together for two fantastic causes,” said Sandie Adams, Training and Development Manager from RGIS UK and Ireland.
RGIS would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, supported, or joined us on the day. Your encouragement and generosity made all the difference, and Parker’s Paddlers will be back on the water next year – stronger, faster, and more determined than ever!
