With over 40 years in the market, one of the leaders in retail of materials for construction, renovation and decoration in Rio de Janeiro required the support of RGIS. The DIY store chain prides itself with delivering products quickly and within the established deadlines, so has 18 stores and two distribution centres. It has one of the largest stock of floors, tiles, frames, crockery, bathroom metals, paints along with other home and construction items.
THE CHALLENGE
The customer required RGIS to provide the following:
- All stock to be counted in two distribution centres
- Identify any variances
- To not impact on any of the daily operations within either warehouse
- Have specific custom reporting
Why RGIS?
The DIY store chain is supported by RGIS in the stocktaking of all 18 stores across Brazil, and now needed a solution to count the distributions centres.
Our Solutions
The DIY store chain partnered with RGIS to complete the distribution centre stock count project, and RGIS provided the following:
Scheduled a team of 72 experienced RGIS auditors for the duration of two days over a weekend
All pieces of stock were counted within each of the distribution centres during the first day
Counting was performed using the multiples and piece-by-piece methodology
A software program was developed to identify any variances by line and by location
Variances were analysed during the second day of the count
Results
The DIY store chain found by outsourcing the distribution centre stock count project to RGIS, the following results were achieved:
365,000 pieces of stock were accurately counted
Teams counted a total of 4,400 pallets and just over 6,000 SKUs
Reports were provided in the format the customer requested
The customer was very satisfied with the execution of the distribution centre counts and with the new software technology
RGIS met with management team of the DIY store chain following the counts, to evaluate the results of inventories carried out, to prepare an action plan for alignment and further improve processes ready for the next stock count

Conclusion
By partnering with RGIS to extend stocktaking support into its distribution centres, the DIY store chain achieved accurate, large-scale inventory visibility without disrupting daily warehouse operations. RGIS’s structured weekend execution, bespoke variance software, and detailed reporting delivered clear insight by SKU and location. As a result, the retailer identified discrepancies, aligned processes with management, and established a data-driven action plan to further strengthen distribution centre accuracy ahead of future counts.
