Based in Milan, a company that manages the mail order of sports merchandising, required the support of RGIS. The company currently specialises in e-commerce, brick and mortar stores, event merchandising and product development. The sport merchandising retailer is the official licensee and/or retail partner of various important sports brands, including the main Italian football and basketball teams. They have a total of four warehouses and nine flagship stores under control.

    THE CHALLENGE

The issue the sports merchandising retailer had was that stock was being continually moved between the warehouses and stores, with no internal procedures to adhere to, so the accuracy of stock was poor. The customer needed to perform inventories of logistics warehouses in order to gain back control of the stock, so required RGIS to provide the following:

    • Complete a full stock count of the four logistic warehouses
    • Complete a full stock count of the stores
    • No disruption to business, staff or customers
    • Accurate and reliable data reporting
    • No counts to take place on match days

    Why RGIS?

Customers use RGIS for warehouse and store stock counts to improve stock flow management by gaining accurate, consistent visibility of inventory across all locations. This reliable data helps identify imbalances, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure stock is positioned correctly to support efficient replenishment and uninterrupted supply.

    • Initial site visits took place in order to provide the most efficient solutions

    • Scheduled a team of approximately 22 experienced RGIS auditors for counting the warehouses

    • Scheduled a team of approximately 9 experienced RGIS auditors for counting the stores

    • Store inventories were conducted during blackout days, when no matches and competitions were taking place, so not to disrupt the business or staff

    Results

The sports merchandising retailer found by outsourcing the full stock inventory of warehouses and stores project to RGIS, the following results were achieved:

    • Accurately counted approximately 85,000 boxes

    • The customer was very satisfied with the accuracy of the counts, and all data was updated on the customer’s system

    • The customer was able to identify frozen stock, due to bad rotation

    • Stock flow management was then improved by the customer throughout the warehouses and stores allowing them to manage frozen or older products and pallets efficiently

    Conclusion

By partnering with RGIS to complete full stock inventories across its warehouses and stores, the sports merchandising retailer regained control and visibility over stock movements without disrupting trading or match-day activity. The accurate, reliable data provided by RGIS enabled the customer to identify frozen and poorly rotated stock, update system records with confidence, and improve stock flow management across the entire operation. As a result, the retailer strengthened inventory governance and achieved more efficient, controlled stock distribution between warehouses and stores.
