    A luxury department store chain has three of the largest department stores in Germany. The stores offer international designer and niche labels as well as beauty, food and homeware.

    THE CHALLENGE

    Required RGIS to provide the following:

    • Experience within a retail environment
    • Count all three department stores including storage areas and external warehouses
    • Complete the count during the morning before store opening
    • Count only specified departments within the stores per day
    • Provide accurate reporting in the format requested

    The department store chain partnered with RGIS to complete the department store inventory count project, and RGIS provided the following:

    • RGIS teams visited the stores prior to each inventory

    • Worked in close cooperation with the employees of the department stores to area ticket certain departments to be counted that day, including areas in the store rooms

    • Scheduled teams of approximately 45 experienced RGIS auditors to count the specified departments within the store that day

    • During the inventory, the master data was processed so that auditors only scanned the correct items with the correct department

    • Inventories took between 8-12 days per location to complete

    Results

    The department store chain found by outsourcing the department store inventory count project to RGIS, the following results were achieved:

    • Accurately counted all sales areas, storage rooms and additionally all external warehouses at all three department stores

    • Counted a total of approximately 100 departments within each store, with a maximum of 10 departments counted per day

    • Just over 2,600,000 pieces were counted

    • The accuracy of the inventories was at a very high level

    • Both the specifications regarding the completion of the inventory and recording of various departments were met

    • Reports were provided in the format the customer requested

    • The customer was very satisfied with the service provided by RGIS

    • There was no disruption to the business, customers or staff during the inventories

    By partnering with RGIS to deliver phased, department-level inventory counts, the department store chain achieved highly accurate visibility of stock across sales floors, storage areas, and external warehouses without disrupting daily trading. RGIS’s collaborative planning, experienced audit teams, and controlled execution ensured each department was counted precisely and reported in the required format. As a result, the retailer met all inventory objectives, achieved high accuracy across more than 2.6 million items, and strengthened confidence in its inventory data across all three stores.
