This week, we caught up with Arathi, a valued member of our Retail Merchandising team, to learn about a typical day in her role as a Retail Merchandiser and Recruitment and Training Specialist.

Arathi has been with RGIS for three years. She describes her role simply as “mentoring and supporting talented individuals.” From working with store staff to guiding recruits, each day brings something different.

A Typical Day on the Job

On a recent day, Arathi visited stores for three well-known retailers. Her responsibilities included assisting retail merchandisers on-site, solving challenges, and ensuring positive interactions with customers. Every visit is carefully planned. Store staff and colleagues receive a briefing ahead of time to guarantee smooth and efficient operations.

To stay organised, Arathi relies on strong computer skills. She uses Excel and PowerPoint daily for data analysis and reporting. One of the more demanding aspects of her role involves managing challenging customer situations.

However, Arathi sees these moments as valuable opportunities to build trust and strengthen relationships. “It’s rewarding when you can turn a difficult situation around,” she shared. By staying calm, listening carefully, and communicating clearly, she’s often able to turn these situations into positive outcomes, leaving customers feeling heard and supported.

Memorable Moments and Proud Achievements

“The respect I’ve earned from my colleagues and customers is what I’m most proud of,” Arathi shared. One memorable situation involved resolving a complaint through effective communication, turning a negative experience into a positive one and building a lasting customer relationship.

Collaboration is key in Arathi’s work. She works closely with both RGIS staff and store teams to provide support, solve problems and make sure everyone’s contributions are acknowledged. One of the best pieces of feedback she’s received from a retailer describes her as a “problem solver with a smile” — a sentiment echoed by those who work alongside her.

Essential Skills for Retail Merchandising

First, Arathi emphasises strong communication to coordinate effectively with store teams. Next, she values efficient time management to handle multiple client visits seamlessly. She also maintains a positive attitude to tackle shop-floor challenges with enthusiasm. This dynamic role keeps her moving and meeting new people every day. Since joining RGIS, her confidence has soared as she hones both merchandising and mentoring skills.  Finally, to power through busy days, she relies on coffee as her essential pick-me-up.
