The RGIS Portsmouth District recently swapped stocktakes for sun, sea, and sustainability with a community beach clean up in Bournemouth. This fantastic initiative formed part of our ongoing commitment to social values and environmental responsibility, and proved to be a brilliant day for all involved.

An Idea Sparked by Passion

The plan was brought to life by District Manager Tony Ma, who wanted to organise a volunteering day for the team. It was a chance to give back to the area while supporting a cause close to his heart — protecting the coastline for future generations. The activity showcased RGIS’s dedication to making a positive impact through corporate social responsibility.

Tidying Up Bournemouth Beach

Armed with gloves, litter pickers, and plenty of enthusiasm, two teams of volunteers headed out along Bournemouth’s busy beachfront. Every item they collected was carefully logged and recorded on their phones as they worked their way along the sand.

By the end of the day, the team had removed over 1,000 pieces of litter, weighing nearly 20 kilograms. With the sun shining and the sound of the waves in the background, their very own chef for the day, Tony, fired up the grill and treated everyone to a delicious feast. Their very own chef for the day, Tony, fired up the grill and treated everyone to a delicious feast. As expected, the atmosphere was lively, filled with laughter, great conversation, and the shared pride of knowing they’d made a real difference to their local coastline.

Looking Ahead to Future Projects

Encouraged by the day’s success, the Portsmouth team is already planning more volunteering days. They hope to involve even more colleagues in future events. In addition, there’s talk of teaming up with other RGIS districts and the Marine Conservation Society to support a national clean-up day.
